The quality bar for this group
- Pick new parts with a maker warranty. Do not pick used, open-box, salvage, reclaimed or refurbished parts.
- The furnace is a 12-volt direct-current (12 V DC) propane, sealed-combustion forced-air unit. Sealed combustion keeps exhaust outside; forced air means its blower moves heat through ducts.
- The furnace maker manual must cover installation. The Dometic manual lists CSA (Canadian Standards Association) RV and electrical standards. Its 7 × 12 × 20 in body fits the 27.5 × 24 in cabinet.
- The roof air conditioner (A/C) must be 13,500 British thermal units per hour (BTU/h), include a non-ducted ceiling assembly and controls, fit the 14.25 × 14.25 in roof opening, and ship with a compression gasket.
- The refrigerator must be an upright 12 V DC compressor model, 3 to 3.5 cubic feet, with freezer space, a US warranty and parts support, and fit within 34 H × 24 W × 24 D in.
Every line
| Line | List pick, 2026-10-11 | Options checked | Pick | Why this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dometic DF12-class sealed-combustion furnace, 1 | $1,297.99, Dometic | $525, MDC USA; $1,129, Panther RV same DFSD12111 | $604.99, MDC USA: furnace $525 + $79.99 Dometic door. Shipping not shown for furnace. | MDC shows stock and a phone. Same new 12,000 BTU furnace is 7 H × 12 W × 20 D in. The 20 in depth leaves 4 in. The door avoids an unsafe improvised exhaust opening. |
| Furnace ducts, registers and thermostat, 1 set | $150 allowance, Camping World | $89.95, 4 in × 25 ft duct; $9.51 each, 5 in registers; $52.22, single-stage thermostat | $161.19 delivered items; duct shipping not shown, registers and thermostat shipping not shown. | The manual allows one 5 in duct or two 4 in ducts. This 25 ft 4 in roll makes two runs, with two outlets. A smaller duct or one outlet risks restricted airflow and furnace shutdown. |
| Coleman Mach 3 13,500 BTU roof unit and ceiling kit, 1 | $871, United RV | $782 + $108 shipping, RV Parts Country; $660.99 upper, United RV + $129.99 ceiling assembly | $790.98, United RV Parts, Fort Worth pickup; freight is $99 if shipped. | Complete Coleman set. It is 79.5 lb, fits a standard 14 × 14 in opening, and has its gasket. A bare upper unit risks a roof leak and no controls. |
| 12 V compressor refrigerator, about 3.3 cu ft, 1 | $500 allowance, United RV | $589.95, RecPro, 32.75 H × 19 W × 18.5 D; $729.99, Camping World, 32.75 H × 19 W × 19 D; $623.99, Amazon Norcold, 30 H × 20.75 W × 20.125 D | $589.95, RecPro; free shipping shown. | Cheapest fit. It is 3.3 cu ft, 12 V compressor, with built-in freezer. RecPro has a US warranty policy and sells parts. The other two have freezer sections and fit, but cost more. |
Refrigerators checked
| Model | Price and outside dimensions | Freezer, warranty and parts |
|---|---|---|
| RecPro RP-RFG-33-SS | $589.95; 32.75 H × 19 W × 18.5 D in. | Built-in freezer. RecPro publishes a US limited-warranty policy and sells replacement parts; warranty term is not stated on the product page. |
| Everchill WS-95RDC | $729.99; 32.75 H × 19 W × 19 D in. | Freezer section. Lippert publishes Everchill manuals, support and warranty-request documents; warranty term: no source found. |
| Norcold DC105 | $623.99; 30 H × 20.75 W × 20.125 D in. | Freezer section. Thetford says one-year warranty and directs US parts/service to an authorized Norcold service center. |
Furnace fit and installation source
| Qualifying model | Maker-source cutout and depth | Cabinet result |
|---|---|---|
| Dometic DFSD12111 / DFSAD12111 | Body depth 20 in. Small-vent wall opening: 2⅛ × 3½ × 1¾ in. Standard-door cutout dimensions: no source found in text export. | Fits 24 in depth before the required intake/exhaust routing. The 27.5 in width is ample. |
| Atwood AFSAD12 | Cutout and depth: no source found. | Do not order without its maker installation manual. |
| Suburban NT-12SE, NT-16SE or NT-20SE | Cutout and depth: no source found. | Do not substitute without a maker-source fit check. |
The Dometic installation manual requires the return-air clearances. For the small DFSD12111 it permits one 5 in duct or two 4 in ducts. This set uses two 4 in runs from one 25 ft roll. Buy the exterior intake/exhaust door and follow that manual. Do not make the wall opening from this page alone.
MDC USA check
MDC USA describes itself as an off-road trailer company with parts, service and dealership opportunities. It is a dealer, not the furnace maker. Its furnace page shows the DFSD12111 in stock. Its contact page gives 833-632-8721. That page does not show a return policy. Panther RV is the $1,129 fallback for the same furnace; its page says installed appliances are non-returnable and directs warranty claims to the maker.

If Nathan changes the design
| Change | Price | Saves about | What he gives up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diesel, catalytic or electric-only heater | No source found | No source found | It is not the approved sealed-combustion propane forced-air furnace. It changes fuel, venting or heat distribution. |
| Window A/C or mini-split | No source found | No source found | It is not the approved 13,500 BTU roof unit and changes roof, wall or outside equipment. |
| RecPro 3.3 cu ft refrigerator | $589.95 | Nothing; it is the pick. | Nothing under the corrected 34 in counter limit. |
| Chest-style 12 V cooler or 120 V dorm refrigerator | No source found | No source found | A chest cannot open under the counter. A 120 V refrigerator is off while towing or without hookups. |
What stayed and why
- The duct, register and thermostat line is now a priced $161.19 set. It uses two 4 in outlet runs, which the furnace manual permits.
- The refrigerator is now the $589.95 RecPro. It fits the corrected 34 in height limit and is cheaper than the checked Everchill and Norcold options.
- The Coleman roof unit stays because the complete non-ducted set is less expensive at the local supplier and keeps the approved roof opening.
What Claude must check
- Call MDC USA before ordering. Confirm the Dometic warranty, return terms and furnace shipping. The product page shows stock and the contact page gives a phone, but no return policy.
- Get the Dometic exterior-door drawing from the maker or seller before cutting the curb wall. The manual text export does not expose the standard-door dimensions.
- Confirm the RecPro refrigerator's warranty term and the exact refrigerator parts procedure before ordering. The US warranty policy exists, but the product page does not state a term.
- Confirm United RV Parts pickup stock in Fort Worth. The web listing shows $99 freight when shipped.
