What Joe did
- Built a nested, two-stage slide-out kitchen for a camp stove and work surfaces.
- Trimmed the boxes in aluminum and fitted heavy-duty drawer glides to the inner and outer slide-outs.
- Found side-to-side wiggle when extended and made a removable shim to stabilize the work surface.
- Built a floor-mounted bracket to hold the slide-out assembly behind an access hatch.
- Used a collapsing sliding-door security bar as the outer support leg and cut a channel for the propane bottle.

- Brad nailer
- Drawer-slide installation tools
Tips and mistakes
- He tested the extended slide and found side-to-side movement before calling it done.
- The removable shim made the surface rigid when extended.
- He left the faucet for a later design because he had not resolved its placement.
For my build
- Nathan: A slide-out kitchen adds moving parts, slides, supports, and weather exposure; decide if it earns its budget.
- Nathan: Mock up the full extension and support leg for Nathan’s layout before buying heavy-duty slides.
- Nathan: Keep propane routing as an unresolved design item until Nathan chooses the kitchen location.
